The handmade glass aspen leaves you see on these pages are individually sculpted in the flame of a torch from rods of colored Italian glass. Natural leaves are actually quite opaque, but I have found that leaves made from opaque glass have a very flat and uninteresting appearance. To give these leaves more depth each has been made by layering a transparent glass color over an opaque color.
I've made an attempt to capture the autumn color transition as the aspen leaves mature from their summer green. They begin by turning yellow around the edges. There is a moment when most of the leaves on a given aspen tree are a uniform bright yellow. Soon after the color deepens to a golden yellow, and then some brown appears just before the leaves fall.
The glass aspen leaf jewelry I've created features necklaces in Early, Middle and Late Season varieties. This lets you choose a palette that complements your fall wardrobe whether it leans toward greens, yellows or golden browns. Earring sets to match each of the leaf colors are available.
Because I believe the warmth of gold works best with these colors I have not prepared jewelry pieces with the glass aspen leaves on Sterling Silver. However, if this would suit your personal taste I would be happy to produce any of the pieces you see above on Sterling Silver findings.
