The Glass Fruit Salad Necklace you see here features five of my handmade glass berry beads. One red raspberry (about 18mm high), two blackberries (about 16mm high) and two blueberries (about 11mm wide) are accented by six olivine Swarovski crystals and hung on a Sterling Silver figure-eight chain. Alternatively, the berries may be reversed so that a center blackberry is flanked by two slightly smaller raspberries.
Like real blackberries, each of my glass ones contains a few reddish not-quite-ripe cells and the center plug that remained inside when it was picked. The glass red raspberries have a translucent quality with a soft surface sheen, and each of their cells has a slight vertical indentation. Each blueberry bead is created by melting glass in the flame of a torch, directly onto the twisted end of a copper wire which becomes the stem. Because the copper stem is embedded inside the glass it can never be pulled free. The points of the flower star on the ends of the blueberries have been rounded to prevent them from chipping and so they cannot snag on clothing. The surface coloring of each blueberry is achieved by sprinkling it with powdered glass which is then completely melted into the surface. Because no paint is used on any of my glass berries, the colors will never rub, flake or chip off.
The standard length for the necklace you see above is 20” and it is finished with a lobster clasp. If you need a different length or clasp style please specify when you order. Like all of my jewelry, this design is available in both 14/20 Gold-Filled and Sterling Silver. You can see alternate necklace designs on the Gold Necklaces Page and matching earrings by viewing the Silver Earrings Page.
Naturally, you are welcomed to design a necklace of your own using any combination of glass berries. Berry jewelry can also be custom made with high-karat gold or platinum findings and accented with Swarovski Crystal or gemstone beads. Some examples can be viewed on the Custom Jewelry Page.
