Solo Show: Art Imitates Life

Glass as a Medium for Trompe L’Oeil

As a material which can be opaque or transparent, colorless or many-colored, hard-edged or rounded, glossy or rough-surfaced, glass is an ideal art medium for mimicry of the real world.

What could be more unexpected than to see a fried egg sitting, without a plate, on someone's desk? Or more fun than watching a visitor stare, then tentatively sniff or touch to see if it's real? The artist who can fool the viewer's eye has mastered her materials and technique so well that she can use them to do a kind of magic. This show will include Trompe L'Oeil artworks amd jewelry made Elizabeth Johnson using the lampwork, fusing and pate de verre methods.
